Wonderland

We finally did it! We bought season’s passes for Canada’s wonderland, and the kids are stoked!!! We visited the park for the 2nd time this season on Sunday and we all had a blast! It wasn’t very busy so we managed to get the kids on quite a few rides.

Natalie’s new favourite roller coaster is the Vortex. I forced her to go on with me last time, knowing she would love it. At first she cried “I’m scared, I don’t want to go on” blah blah blah. Finally she agreed and we got on the ride. Welllllll, it was way faster then I anticipated so I was a bit worried about her after the first drop. I was trying to catch a glimpse of her face (no small feat when you’re strapped into a roller coaster) when I heard her cry “This is totally awesome!!!” When we got off, she was grinning ear to ear. She loved it.

Nicholas discovered the bumper cars, a ride designed for little boys. Seriously what little boy doesn’t love cars, and crashing those cars into others. A dream come true.

The only thing that I don’t like about going there is the cost of food. $11 for a kids meal. SERIOUSLY!? Not happening. We’ve warned the kids we’ll pack a picnic lunch and go out to the van to eat. I’m nopt paying $50 for a crappy meal. The high cost is made worse by the fact that you are not allowed to bring any food or drink (save bottled water) into the park with you… CRAZINESS.

First Grey Hair, Seriously?

I found a grey hair today. I was shocked, not because it is my first grey hair, but Natalie’s. Your heard that right, Natalie. She’s 8 and there is a single grey hair right at the back of her head. Kinda funny actually. A few weeks ago she was brushing my hair when she said, “I really like your hair Mommy, you have lots of beautiful white streaks in it!” Now I knew I had grey hair, quite a lot of grey hair, but I had been deluding myself, thinking I was the only one who noticed it. Guess not. Not sure if I should point out the single grey hair to her or not…

Sick again!

There is currently a bad stomach flu ripping through our fair city. The children in Natalie’s school are dropping like flies and have been for about a month. Natalie suffered with it two weeks ago over Easter. She felt fine when I picked her up at school on Thursday so we stayed to play at the park. She went from fine to “my tummy hurts” to vomiting in 15 minutes flat. It hit that fast. Then the poor kid had to walk home where she crashed on the couch. I got out my trusty bottle of bleach and disenfected every conceivable surface in the house, twice! Then I had to phone Mum and Dad to let them know we wouldn’t be coming for Easter for fear of infecting them too. I felt so bad for Natalie, she was crushed. Then I waited to see who else in the house would succumb to the nasty virus. Imagine my delight when the 1 week marker came and went and we were all fine!

Last night (2 weeks after his sister) Nicholas awoke at 3:30am, covered in vomit. ICK. At least he was happy,  bouncing around apologizing for the mess in the bed. He awoke at 5am sick again, then was up for the day at 7. He’s been funny today, he’ll go from bouncing around to writhing in pain on the couch in like, a nanosecond. Seriously! Now, I know what you’re thinking, “why is he bouncing around if he’s sick?” Well, the only way I can think of to keep him still involves duct tape, crazy glue and possibly staples. I am thinking CAS may have issues with this option. So now we sit and wait. I am hoping the worst has past and he’ll start keeping food down now. I’m off to disinfect the house. Again.

What was I Thinking?

Usually I consider myself a fairly smart person. Usually. Today … not so much! I don’t know what I was thinking, but I decided to prime the table and chairs with Nicholas as my little helper. He’s 3 with the attention span of a newt. I gave him an itty bitty paintbrush and let him loose. He had a blast! It was actually pretty cute. Needless to say the furniture is now primed. So is Nicholas, my kitchen floor, me… I cleaned up so much paint today it isn’t funny.

The Nosebleed

Poor Natalie, last night she woke up in the middle of the night with a wicked nosebleed. Being the sweet little girl that she is she tried to take care of it by herself, but couldn’t. It wound up taking us about an hour to stop the bleeding and get her back to sleep. Not an hour later the poor thing was up with a nightmare. I wound up just crashing in her bed for the rest of the night. She slept in this morning and went into school late.

He knows not what he says…

Nicholas is a parrot. He repeats everything, and not always right away, sometimes it’s weeks later.
Tonight we were upstairs cleaning his room and he looks up at me and pit of the blue he exclaims “Your mother is a twit.” I was like “pardon me?” He repeats the statement, followed by a little giggle. Turns out he heard it from the movie “Matilda”
Mental note: be extra careful with what he watches. I think it’s just Dora and Barney from now on!

Little Blessings :: My Husband

I am so incredibly lucky, I married such a wonderful man. He is kind, loving, thoughtful and good looking to boot. He tells me daily that I am beautiful and that he love me. He makes the bed, cleans, and helps with dishes. When he knows I have had a stressful day with the kids, he’ll send me out for coffee, so I can have some peace and quiet. I know he would do anything for me. He is a wonderful father, fantastic husband, and my best friend.

Shopping Experience…

Lately shopping with Nicholas has become an adventure. I never know what will happen!
Yesterday we ventured out to Home Outfitters to look at duvets. Nicholas was happy, but energetic. As I tried to make sense of the vast selection, he tried to be helpful by selecting various styles, colours and sizes of sheets he thought we should buy. After what seemed like an eternity, not only to me but to everyone else in the store, I decided on a synthetic gel filled duvet, which we love! Nicholas then helped me pick out some pillows, and of course a little shovel for him.

Energizer Bunny

I would love to know where Nicholas gets his energy. He seriously never stops. We played all day yesterday, he had swimming lessons (which he cried right through) came home for dinner and a bath, then off to bed … or so I thought. He was up and down, and up and down. I caught him playing hockey with pocket change on the floor in his room. WTH? I took all the toys away and put him back to bed but by this time he way totally wired for sound. I lay down with him for a few minutes, and he chatted non-stop. Really. NON STOP! I left the room and closed the door. I did hear a bit more rustling around, but shortly thereafter he conked out. If only I could have a fraction of his energy, a small percentage, that’s all I need!

Flashback

Something happened on the way to Karate on Friday night that took me back in time. Nicholas started asking about “our kitty Timon” who died back in 2006.  I told him that Timon was up in heaven with God. He pondered this for a moment and asked “where’s heaven?”

This brought me back to the days after we lost Timon. I was in a grief induced stupor, choking back tears every time Natalie asked about Timon. In an effort to comfort her, I told her she would always hold his memory in her heart, so a part of him would always be with her. I also told her that Timon was up in heaven with God, looking down on us. One afternoon she was playing in the driveway with Luigi when she just stopped and turned her face skyward. She remained that way for a moment or 2, then continues on playing with Daddy. When he asked what she had been doing, she replied simply “saying hi to Timon, I miss him”
