Stress Balls…

Conversations with Nicholas: From the archives… this conversation took place this summer after he finished packing his bag for camp…
Nick: Hey Mum, what’s up with the stress balls?
Me: stress balls??
Nick: Yeah, in my lunch…
Me: Plums. They are plums, NOT stress balls.
Nick: oh! Well THAT makes much more sense.

First Day Jitters

This morning was brutal. It was Nicholas’ first day of school and to say that he did not want to go would be the understatement of the decade. He was okay until the teachers came outside to take the new JK kids in. Then all hell broke loose. He started screaming bloody murder. So me being the caring, compassionate mother I am, picked him up, kissed him and carried him toward the door. For those of you who know Marmaduke the dog, that was my son as I tried to carry him crying and screaming into the school. He had his little arms and legs outstretched frantically reaching  for the door frame or anything else he could grab on to. I finally managed to get him inside the school then he took avery opportunity he could to make a break for freedom. Each time I let go of him he’d run, sobbing to the door and pound on it begging Daddy to come get him. Eventually Mrs. H came into the hall and tried to pry him off me. “You go, he’ll be fine” So I managed to extricate myself from his grip (It’s amazing how strong thelittle bugger is) and run out the door. The last thing I heard was Nicholas screaming “MOMMY!” I hope Thursday is better.

Little Blessings :: My Husband

I am so incredibly lucky, I married such a wonderful man. He is kind, loving, thoughtful and good looking to boot. He tells me daily that I am beautiful and that he love me. He makes the bed, cleans, and helps with dishes. When he knows I have had a stressful day with the kids, he’ll send me out for coffee, so I can have some peace and quiet. I know he would do anything for me. He is a wonderful father, fantastic husband, and my best friend.

Time Flies….

Why is it that the older we get, the faster time seems to go by. I remember back in June, thinking “wow, 10 weeks, it is going to be a LOOONG summer” Well, fast forward 7 weeks and I am left scratching my head in amazement, staring at the calender on my fridge and realizing that school starts in only 3 weeks!I had so many things I wanted to do this summer, and many of them are still left undone! Don’t get me wrong, we have done a ton of stuff, but not as much as we wanted.

My nephews are coming up tomorrow for a few days so we’re going to the splash pad, the zoo and the AGO. Next week we’re heading to the Science Centre and Wonderland… I think I am going to need a mini-vacation to recuperate from summer vacation!

I feel so blessed that I am able to stay home with the kids and do so many things with them.

Summer Vacation

Time seems to fly by these days. I have every intention of updating this blog on a daily basis, but it never seems to happen. I am simply too busy with life.

We have been having a fantastic summer. We rented a cottage with some friends for a week. That was tons of fun. The kids spent most of their time on the trampoline! Natalie also went fishing for the first time and caught sevral fish. Although I was a bit leary of spending 7 days in close quarters with another family, the week went by without a hitch. The kids got along great. We were all sad when the week came to an end.

We’ve also gone camping (for the first time!) Mum and Dad gave us their tent trailer so we took the kids up north for a weekend. They loved it! Even hubby, who is a true CITY Boy, had a great time. It would have been better if it didn’t rain, but hey, I shouldn’t complain.

We went to the Toronto zoo with some friends. Both kids loved it. Nicholas kept trying to climb into the enclosures! I almost had a heart attack when he tried to climb in with the hippos! Not the best idea! The day went swimmingly until Natalie fell and broke her wrist. She was running when one of her crocs fell off. Not wanting to actually stop and put it back on she tried to do it while she was running. She wasn’t successful. Took her into the clinic the next morning (bad mommy) had it x-rayed. She was in a cast for the next 3 weeks. Luckily it didn’t seem to affect her that much!

At My Wits End

I love my children, I love my children…. Some days it seems this is my mantra. Letely Nicholas has been particularily trying. He has, unfortunately, discovered some…. unsavoury words. He swears like a trucker! Really, its not as bad as that, his favourite phrase at the moment is poosh*t, poohsh*t, and he says it whenever he doesn’t get his own way – which is often. He also likes to throw in the occasional JC, and last weekend he dropped the F bomb. That got him a bar of Irish spring in the mouth. We have tried ignoring it, talking to him, time outs, taking toys away, soap,  you name it! Basically there is always a reprecussion, and he doesn’t seem to care! Sigh, here’s hoping it looses it’s appeal, and soon! Nothing like being out in public with your adorabe 2 year old and having him curse. Wish me luck.

Attention Span

Well it seems my darling daughter had inherited my issues with a short attention span. Like me, she has good intentions, but is VERY eeasily distracted. I spoke with Mrs. D at the beginning of the week, and apparantly she has been even more distracted than usual, and from her report card, we see it is affecting her marks. Don’t get me wrong, she’s not doing poorly, mostly B’s with some C’s, but we know she could do better. The most aggravating thing for me is when I try to talk to her about it, I get “I don’t CARE” I already know everythin ;P “Really,” I ask “then what’s 5X5?” her response…”I don’t need to know that!” I suppose it’s God’s way of preparing us for what’s in store in the teenage years…
