Time Flies….

Why is it that the older we get, the faster time seems to go by. I remember back in June, thinking “wow, 10 weeks, it is going to be a LOOONG summer” Well, fast forward 7 weeks and I am left scratching my head in amazement, staring at the calender on my fridge and realizing that school starts in only 3 weeks!I had so many things I wanted to do this summer, and many of them are still left undone! Don’t get me wrong, we have done a ton of stuff, but not as much as we wanted.

My nephews are coming up tomorrow for a few days so we’re going to the splash pad, the zoo and the AGO. Next week we’re heading to the Science Centre and Wonderland… I think I am going to need a mini-vacation to recuperate from summer vacation!

I feel so blessed that I am able to stay home with the kids and do so many things with them.

The Castle

The kids and I went up north today to a cute little castle! A friend told us about it years ago, but we never got around to going there. We went with some friends and the kids had a ball! The family that owns the castle have built a littl fairy tale land complete with little houses for Goldilocks and the 3 bears, Snow White, Merlin, Little red Riding hood and more! Both kids loved the slides and play area! Nicholas in particular loved the covered slide, he discovered if he yelled, it echoed. Too cute. We also took the kids into the “Dungeon of horrors” Not really all that scary, but they weren’t all that enthused. I was actually expecting Natalie to have nightmares, luckily she didn’t. I think we’ll definately go back, next time we’ll bring a picnic lunch and stay for the day.

Natalie’ Skateboard

Well, I finally did it. Something I have actively been avoiding for quite some time. You see Natalie has been begging, pleading, asking, whatever you want to call it, for a … skateboard. In order to fully understand why I was so resistant, you should know that I am EXTREMELY safety concious. Add to that that my darling daughter, while beautiful, smart and well behaved (just like her mom) also inherited my unfortunate lack of co-ordination. UGH.

Back to the skateboard. We were at walmart yesterday and she saw one and I broke down. I did promise her at the beginning of the summer that I would get her one. She was so thankful and soooo excited!

So far she is doing remarkable well on her board. She is being quite diligent at ensuring she is wearing all the proper safety equipment and being careful in all she does. I think I may have been worring about the wrong kid. Nicholas is already trying to climb on the board and take it for a spin himself. I can’t find safety equipment small enough for him.

I’ll keep you posted in the coming weeks about how they are doing!

The Ultimate Tantrum

Natalie is generally a fantastic kid. She is kind, loving, respectful, well mannered… the list goes on and on. Which is why her occasional outbursts always take me completely off guard.

Tonight she had, what I believe, was her worst tantrum ever! Here’s how it went down. After several warnings about being careful with silly putty (oh how I HATE that crap) I noticed she was sporting a large blob of flourescent silly putty, it was ground in and melted to the fabric of her t-shirt, under her arm to be exact. Well that was it! I told her to hand over the silly putty, it was going in the garbage.

Um, to say she went off, would be an understatement. She screamed, she cried, she begged she pleaded and she threatened. (she swore she was never coming out of her room again!) I actually went around and closed windows, I was afraid the neighbours would call the cops, she was that loud. She did eventually calm down, but oh my was she ever mad!

She’s in bed now, and I’m sure she’ll mention it tomorrow, hopefully there will be no more tears!

Summer Vacation

Time seems to fly by these days. I have every intention of updating this blog on a daily basis, but it never seems to happen. I am simply too busy with life.

We have been having a fantastic summer. We rented a cottage with some friends for a week. That was tons of fun. The kids spent most of their time on the trampoline! Natalie also went fishing for the first time and caught sevral fish. Although I was a bit leary of spending 7 days in close quarters with another family, the week went by without a hitch. The kids got along great. We were all sad when the week came to an end.

We’ve also gone camping (for the first time!) Mum and Dad gave us their tent trailer so we took the kids up north for a weekend. They loved it! Even hubby, who is a true CITY Boy, had a great time. It would have been better if it didn’t rain, but hey, I shouldn’t complain.

We went to the Toronto zoo with some friends. Both kids loved it. Nicholas kept trying to climb into the enclosures! I almost had a heart attack when he tried to climb in with the hippos! Not the best idea! The day went swimmingly until Natalie fell and broke her wrist. She was running when one of her crocs fell off. Not wanting to actually stop and put it back on she tried to do it while she was running. She wasn’t successful. Took her into the clinic the next morning (bad mommy) had it x-rayed. She was in a cast for the next 3 weeks. Luckily it didn’t seem to affect her that much!
